Happy Memorial Day 2016

Memorial Day is here and it’s time to celebrate our freedom and kickoff the Summer of 2016!  Check out these fun ways to celebrate Memorial Day and upcoming warm weather days!

  • Visit a military attraction. There are various parks, museums and houses across Long Island and NY that house tons of Military history and artifacts. There’s always more to learn and appreciate about those who fought for the freedom we celebrate today.

  • Throw a backyard bash! Inviting your friends and family over doesn’t always have to be a lavish affair. Pitch a themed potluck event (finger foods, chilifest etc) stream music from your smart phone and search some DIY games for the kids to keep the entertainment flowing. Appeal to your favorite EGGheads with fun new recipes for  cooking the Big Green EGG

  • Camping & Boating Long Island has an array of camping options from wooded areas to the sandy beaches. With a 4×4, you can ‘camp’ for the day with your favorite tailgating gear while the family dips their toes in the ocean. If you own a boat, you’re a lucky one!  If not, you still have options; boat, canoe, kayak, paddleboard rentals abound at County and State Parks. Be one with the foliage, wildlife, aquatics and more as you cruise on the water that surrounds us.

  • Day trip: Montauk Lighthouse, Greenport’s Carousel, Ferry to Fire Island, walk Freeport’s Nautical Mile and the list goes on. There are never ending options from west to east when it comes to local things to do. Be a tourist even if you grew up locally by exploring NY and LI visitor sites, you’re sure to find things you’d never thought of before.

  • Attend a tasting event. For the past few years, tasting events on LI have gained momentum as restaurants, wineries, breweries and vendors come together to show off their best under one roof. A quick internet search will drum up a variety of tasting events for every weekend of the season!
