May is National Water Safety Month and what better time to check in with your family and make sure everyone is practicing Care near H2O. The annual awareness campaign, put out by several organizations has a variety of resources good all year long.

PHTA suggest reading up on ways to enjoy inground or aboveground pools, Spas or Hot Tubs, Swimming and Diving safety and how to teach children and enforce water rules in a variety of free water safety brochures and booklets.

Teach Children to #BeWaterAware

Before they jump in the pool, share one of these coloring and activity books or videos with children to them about water safety in a fun way.

Longfellow’s WHALE Tales Program – Short, educational videos for children of any age.

American Red Cross’s Water Safety Resources

Improving water competency—swimming and water knowledge can make water activities safer and just as much fun, according to the American Red Cross. They have a list of resources to find swim classes, learn how to make water safety a priority, know what to do in an emergency and understand why you should embrace water safety.

Take a Pledge

Consider taking the I’m a Safe Swimmer Pledge, joining others who are committing to stay safe around water–which includes a Certificate.
